How the Lose Your Mummy Tummy - DVD Will Benefit You and Your Pelvic Floor
This 2-hour DVD will focus on a common condition called diastasis recti. This is a condition that most women get after having a baby. A diastasis recti is the separation of the outermost abdominal muscles (rectus abdominis). When the muscles separate it weakens the support system for the back and the organs causing back pain and a “mummy tummy.”
A diastasis recti can be closed no matter when a woman has had her baby. If this separation is not closed after the first baby it will continue to get larger with each subsequent baby. That is why women show faster in their second pregnancy.
The first hour of this DVD teaches the 4-step Tupler Technique. The Tupler Technique is the only research –based (Columbia University Program in Physical Therapy) exercise program that can make a diastasis smaller no matter when a diastasis was created. Women will learn the three exercises (Elevator, Contacting & Head lifts), the purpose and how to use the Diastasis Rehab splint, how to check themselves for a diastasis correctly, how to engage the core muscles during their activities of daily living and important body mechanics when getting up and down from a back-lying position.
In the second part there is a total body workout incorporating the Tupler Technique. New moms can do many of these exercises with their baby. The Tupler Technique is the foundation of all abdominal work. It is crucial that moms of all ages learn the Tupler Technique and then incorporate it into other exercise modalities. Doing abdominal exercises incorrectly can re-create a diastasis.
